1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Bluepip Academy International (“Bluepip Academy”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) governing your access to and use of our online tutoring platform, website, dashboards, and all related services (collectively, the “Platform”).

By registering for an account, clicking “I agree”, or otherwise accessing or using the Platform, you confirm that:

  1. You have read and understood these Terms in full
  2. You agree to be bound by these Terms
  3. If you are registering on behalf of a minor, you are the parent or legal guardian of that minor and accept these Terms on their behalf

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.

2. Who May Use the Platform

2.1 Age Requirements

  • Parents and Teachers: You must be at least 18 years of age to register as a parent or teacher.
  • Students: Student accounts are created by parents and are not independently registered. Students may be between the ages of 10 and 20.
  • Students under 13 receive additional data protections as set out in our Privacy Policy.

2.2 Eligibility

You may only use the Platform if:

  • You are not barred from using online educational services under applicable law
  • You are not on any government-sanctioned list of prohibited persons
  • You have not previously been suspended or banned from the Platform

2.3 Account Types

The Platform provides accounts for three user roles:

  • Parent — the billing contact, consent holder, and legal account owner for a student
  • Student — a learner enrolled by a parent
  • Teacher — a qualified tutor engaged by Bluepip Academy to deliver sessions

3. Account Registration and Security

3.1 Registration

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and current information
  • Promptly update your information if it changes
  • Register only one account per person (unless expressly permitted by us)

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials confidential
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately at support@bluepipacademy.com if you suspect unauthorised access

We will never ask you for your password via email.

3.3 Parent Responsibility

Parents are fully responsible for:

  • Supervising their child’s use of the Platform
  • Ensuring their child complies with these Terms
  • All charges incurred under their account
  • The accuracy of information provided in the student profile

4. The Tutoring Service

4.1 What We Provide

Bluepip Academy connects students with qualified teachers for live, one-on-one and small group online tutoring sessions across a range of academic subjects. Our Platform provides:

  • Scheduling and timetable management
  • Live video sessions via our integrated conferencing tool
  • Session recording and secure storage
  • Learning materials uploaded by teachers
  • Student progress tracking
  • Parent oversight and reporting

4.2 What We Do Not Provide

  • Bluepip Academy does not guarantee specific academic outcomes or examination results
  • We are not a substitute for formal schooling
  • We do not provide emergency support services

4.3 Session Delivery

All sessions are delivered online. You are responsible for ensuring you have:

  • A device capable of running video conferencing software
  • A stable internet connection (minimum recommended: 5 Mbps)
  • A quiet, appropriate environment for learning or teaching
  • All required materials and equipment (e.g., headset, webcam)

5. The No-Contact-Exchange Rule

This is a core safety rule of the Bluepip Academy platform.

5.1 Prohibition

Teachers and students (and parents acting on their behalf) are strictly prohibited from:

  • Exchanging personal email addresses, phone numbers, or social media handles
  • Communicating through any channel outside the Bluepip Academy platform
  • Sharing any personal contact information with other platform users
  • Attempting to establish direct communication outside of the platform

5.2 Enforcement

All platform communication is monitored for safeguarding purposes. Violation of this rule is grounds for immediate suspension or permanent removal from the Platform, for both teachers and parents/students. We reserve the right to refer suspected safeguarding concerns to the relevant authorities.

5.3 Platform Communication Only

All communication between teachers, students, and parents must occur through the Platform’s internal messaging system. Session links are generated by the Platform — neither teachers nor students receive or exchange personal meeting links.

6. Session Recordings

6.1 All Sessions Are Recorded

By using the Platform, you consent to all tutoring sessions being video-recorded. These recordings are used for:

  • Safeguarding and quality assurance
  • Dispute resolution
  • Parent review (upon request and with administrator approval)
  • Teacher professional development (at administrator discretion)

6.2 Recording Access

  • Recordings are accessible to Bluepip Academy administrators at all times
  • Parents may request access to their child’s recordings through the Parent Dashboard
  • Access is granted by administrators with a time-limited, secure link
  • Teachers may be granted access to their own sessions at administrator discretion

6.3 Recordings Are Platform Property

All recordings made on the Bluepip Academy platform are the property of Bluepip Academy. You may not record, capture, share, or distribute any session recording by any other means.

7. Payments and Billing

7.1 Parent Billing

Tuition fees are charged to parents in accordance with the fee schedule communicated at the time of enrolment. All fees are payable in advance before sessions begin for each billing period.

7.2 Payment Methods

We accept payment via:

  • Paystack (Nigerian debit/credit cards, bank transfer, USSD)
  • Stripe (international credit/debit cards)
  • Bank transfer (subject to manual verification by our team)

7.3 Late Payment

Failure to pay by the due date may result in temporary suspension of the student’s account until payment is received.

7.4 Price Changes

We will provide at least 30 days’ notice of any changes to our fee structure.

7.5 Taxes

Prices displayed are exclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. You are responsible for all taxes applicable to your purchase in your jurisdiction.

8. Refund Policy

Please refer to our standalone Refund and Payment Policy for full details. In summary:

  • Sessions cancelled by the Platform (due to teacher absence or technical failure) are credited in full
  • Sessions missed by the student without at least 24 hours’ notice are non-refundable
  • Sessions missed by the student with at least 24 hours’ notice may be rescheduled at our discretion
  • Disputes regarding charges must be raised within 14 days of the invoice date

9. Teacher Engagement

Teachers on the Bluepip Academy platform are engaged as independent contractors, not employees. The terms of teacher engagement are governed by the separate Teacher Service Agreement. These Terms of Service apply to teachers in relation to their use of the Platform itself.

10. Intellectual Property

10.1 Platform Ownership

All content on the Platform, including but not limited to software, design, text, graphics, logos, and database structure, is the intellectual property of Bluepip Academy or its licensors. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or exploit any part of the Platform without our prior written consent.

10.2 Teaching Materials

Materials uploaded by teachers to the Platform may only be accessed and downloaded by students enrolled with that teacher, through the Platform. Materials may not be redistributed, resold, or used for any purpose outside of the student’s personal study.

10.3 Your Content

By submitting any content to the Platform (including feedback, ratings, or messages), you grant Bluepip Academy a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use that content for Platform operations and improvement, subject to our Privacy Policy.

11. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or another user’s account
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Harass, bully, intimidate, or discriminate against any other user
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Use automated tools to access or scrape the Platform
  • Use the Platform to solicit students or parents for competing services
  • Reproduce, resell, or commercially exploit any Platform content or teaching materials
  • Violate the No-Contact-Exchange Rule (Section 5)
  • Circumvent any access controls or security measures
  • Post or transmit any sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate content

Violation of any of these prohibitions may result in immediate termination of your account.

12. Suspension and Termination

12.1 By You

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at support@bluepipacademy.com. Account closure does not entitle you to a refund of any fees already paid.

12.2 By Bluepip Academy

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate any account, with or without notice, if we determine that:

  • You have violated these Terms
  • You have violated our Safeguarding Policy
  • Your account poses a risk to the safety of other users, particularly minors
  • Payment obligations have not been met
  • Fraudulent activity has been detected on your account

12.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination:

  • Access to the Platform and all its content is revoked
  • Outstanding fees remain due and payable
  • Data is retained in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • Bluepip Academy’s total liability to you in connection with the Platform shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the 6 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim
  • We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, incidental, or punitive damages
  • We are not liable for loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of educational opportunity arising from use of or inability to use the Platform
  • We are not responsible for the conduct of teachers, students, or parents on or off the Platform, although we take safeguarding reports seriously and act promptly

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

14. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding:

  • The reliability, availability, or continuity of the Platform
  • The qualifications or suitability of any teacher
  • The academic outcomes achieved through use of the Platform
  • The compatibility of the Platform with your device or connection

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bluepip Academy, its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, losses, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the Platform
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Any content you submit to the Platform
  • Your violation of any third-party rights

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved by good-faith negotiation shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nigeria.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, this clause does not affect your right to rely on mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law in your country of residence.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email at least 14 days before the new Terms take effect. Your continued use of the Platform after that date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Refund Policy, and (where applicable) the Teacher Service Agreement or Parent & Student Agreement, constitute the entire agreement between you and Bluepip Academy regarding your use of the Platform.
